Our older vintages

Zöbinger Heiligenstein

Riesling

2020

Kamptal DAC, Erste Lage ÖTW

Brilliant, multi-layered bouquet, featuring vineyard-peaches, white flowers and lemon peel combined with some cool spice; on the pallet it is fresh, crystal clear and indeed gracefully built, lemon zest and white currant with a touch of juvenile yeast, very dense and full of finesse showing the typical salty tone in its long- finish, an excellent “ Grand Cru” representant of this elegant vintage

The Bründlmayer family owns 12 hectares right in the centre of the Zöbinger Heiligenstein. It's not only the oldest but probably also the most interesting on our estate: the soil consists of approximately 270 Mio years old Perm desert sandstone.

The 2020 vintage
At the beginning of November, a long-lasting harvest 2020 has found its happy ending! If one would have to headline our experiences with the whole (wine)year 2020 in one word, “Suspense” might be the accurate term, as to us it was an incredibly thrilling and labour-intensive one: a rather dry and warm Winter was followed by Spring virtually without precipitation and with strong temperature fluctuations delaying bud break. These circumstances proved to be lucky, as it prevented us from considerably early frost damage. Only in the middle of May did we receive noteworthy amounts of rain, which allowed the plants to quickly recover and...

Maturation

We ferment the must in stainless steel at a temperature of 15-20° Celsius. After fermentation the wine was partly racked into big wooden casks to mature for a short period on the fine yeast.

Food pairing recommendation

All types of seafood, grilled fish, fried chicken or pork a good alternative to red wine in combination with roast duck; matches with all various elegant Asian dishes.
