Wine Diary
Working during winter rest II
Pruning is progressing rapidly. The cool and humid weather is not pleasant, but we are grateful for both! A well-moistened soil will make it easier for the vine to get nutrients in spring. The cool temperatures, if they persist, will delay budding and could significantly reduce the risk of damage during subsequent cold snaps.
Thanks to the early harvest, we already have the first messengers of the 2024 vintage, the elegant Grüner Veltliner L+T and soon also the delicate Zweigelt rosé, ready for release. All other young wines will rest a little more on the lees, and the charismatic 2023 Reserves will also be allowed to mature a little longer in the barrel before their premiere in autumn. We did not let the quiet phase of winemaking and the energy it freed up go to waste: And so, at the Langenloiser Spiegel, our vineyard team received interim support from the cellar: it was an interesting change of pace for everyone and a breath of fresh air in the truest sense of the word!
