The Calm before the Storm
Suspense & late summer sun!
One week of great late summer weather and the cards are being reshuffled anew: we are now getting very close to the start of harvest. Warm days and cool nights accelerate ripeness. Tasting the grapes now, we can feel sweetness and aromas already emerging while acidity is still prominent. However, after the coming weekend our early ripening varietals like Pinot Noir and Zweigelt will show all characteristics of ideal sparkling base-wines. Should this marvellous late autumn weather continue for another week, we might directly move from picking Sekt grapes to our main harvest with the best prospect for success.
Today it is strangely quiet in our cellar, one feels a kind of suspense, still no must bubbling in the vats: kind of a lull before the storm!
