Parkers Wine Advocate, March 2020

April 8, 2020

For Stephan Reinhardt, Parker's man, covering the German speaking wine world, Zöbinger Heiligenstein “is one of the greatest Riesling sites on planet wine.“ *

In his latest report on “Austria: All Along the Danube River – The 2018s From the North of Vienna to the Wachau“ he quotes Bründlmayer Zöbinger Heiligenstein 1ÖTW 2018 Alte Reben as "…reference Riesling of the year…“* and gives it a 97+/100 points, making it the highest Parker rated Kamptal Riesling ever! Out of the 12 ha of vineyards, owned by Bründlmayer in the heart of the Heiligenstein, in 2018 only 10 000 bottles of highest quality Riesling were produced, including the earlier harvested ‘classic’ Heiligenstein (92+ P.) and the version from vines in "LYRA“-trellises (95+ P.), which to Reinhardt is “…possibly one of the greatest Heiligensteins in the era of Willy Bründlmayer…“* Enthusiastically he concludes elsewhere that given some time “…you will see that there is most probably no better combination of vintage and winemaker for the Heiligenstein history than Bründlmayer's 2018s.“*

“Blown away” by Pinot Noir!

I have always been a fan of Bründlmayer's Pinot Noirs”, admits Reinhardt, before he continues, “but I was blown away about the quality of the 2017s and 2016 Reserve. These are arguably some of Austria's finest red wines and have reached a level that I never thought they would be able to do. Try them!“ Weingut Bründlmayer Pinot Noir Reserve 2016, consequently gets a 95/100, the highest Parker points for an Austrian Pinot Noir so far!

At the Bründlmayer winery, Willi & family and the team around Andreas Wickhoff and Thomas Klinger are more than happy and take the accolades as a great honor and motivation. Parker still has an immense international coverage. "Somehow it feels as if, after years of patient hard work, we managed to break a kind of glass ceiling! We are very happy, especially, with regard to our 'traditional‘ grape Pinot Noir, as Grüner Veltliner and Riesling have had already their successes before!” states CEO Andreas Wickhoff MW, “Stephan Reinhardt is a highly distinguished journalist, taster and ‘connaisseur’ of the German speaking wine world!“ and Willi Bründlmayer adds: "I feel grateful, that the deep connection of our family to the Heiligenstein is recognized in such a manner.“ Bründlmayer is not only the biggest owner on the Heiligenstein, but also works a third of the historic site.
